Wooden Scale Shielding

I wanted to make some protective scale material that could be used on something like a giant tower shield or maybe on some giant dwarven gates. I suppose you could put it on a big bulky character but these would be really heavy! The substance has controls for the scale shape and the pattern etched inside the wood of every other scale. There other various parameters too.
